Now in its 12th year, the Rome Rotary Canalfest is three fun-filled days on the historic Erie Canal, a family-oriented event with non-stop music and entertainment. Included again this year will be the popular karaoke contest, cake and cookie baking contests, youth bands, the fishing derby, the 5K run and 2K kayak/canoe event and even a duck race. There’s something for everyone, from exciting rides for the kids and a classic car exhibition for the adults to cotton candy and raffles, all capped off by a spectacular nightly fireworks display.
Started in 2003 by the Rome Rotary Club, the festival not only provides a wonderful summer weekend of activities for the whole family but raises money for many community projects the Rotary sponsors throughout the year, including the Rome Rotary Scholarship program, the Rotary RFA JROTC Scholarship program and the Rotary Kids’ Christmas Party, which provides more than fifty local children with coats, boots, presents and more.
